Learning to ride a bike: no more training wheels for the kids

September 27, 2009

This is a very cool invention. Training wheels are my bugbear. Toby won’t ride if he didn’t have them and refuses to take them off before his is 5 (some kind of kid mandatory age thing he got into his head).Training wheels are good because kids can get going on a bike but bad, as the woman in this video says, for teaching bad – and lazy – habits.

This invention is a high stability front wheel that has a battery powered rotor in it that spins against the wheel’s balance to hold it upright. Eventually it will fall.
